1857 exterior brick columns made decorative with lime mortar ( in lab
) stuccoed flutes
1970's attempt to stabilize and wanterproof fluted collums with gray
portland slurry .
we had a similar situation on brick wall and after much testing
dicovered slurry came off by a light pass with a dulled bush hammer
there had been a paint applied before the slurry and it acted as a bond
breaker but slurry needed a little push to break it loose
once loosened more popped off with firm application of a stout putty
knife
maybe not applicable to a concave surface but maybe a clue on how to
proceed?
