I don't know whether the fish-oil based Rustoleum is still sold (#633
primer?), but even when I last got involved with the company over a decade
ago it had been eclipsed by more "modern" formulations. I particularly had
liked their quick drying zinc chromate primer #1573, which was suitable for
both waterborne and solvent borne industrial topcoats.

How well did the fish oil penetrate? I'm not the expert on ferrous
substrates, but my impression is that what was a novelty 70 years ago is no
longer competitive technology.
