I used to work with a dude in '84 who had AIDS, but of course wasn't telling anyone. We worked in this huge room with a bunch of desks and PCs - the room was large enough to hold 50 desks but there were only about a dozen in the area. He would take cat naps under his desk in the middle of the day and then boil ginger in the staff kitchen that would permeate the whole floor. He was a bit of a strange dude but the ginger smelled good.
Sounds like quite a large office for a dude ranch. Yup - it was about 1/2 of the 10th floor at 401 Park South (at 28th St). My guess is the one room was 800 - 1000 sq ft Hmmm. That is indeed a pretty big office for a dude ranch, and a surprising location. Maybe you knew the guy in the Lincoln Bldg (even though it's at 42/Park) who wore spurs, or they guy at Herald Square who wore chaps. Or the Naked Cowboy. It would probably be fair toc all them dudes, since theyw ere dressed like cowboys and were in New York. Since you've given us the address and time, I can tell you that I worked at 251 PAS (20th St) at EXACTLY THE SAME time, for Chriftopher'f dear personal friend Willy Lump Lump. You and I were neighbors! Well, I'll be damned!! I musta walked by your place (and maybe YOU) a thousand times to go to Union Sq., especially on days when the #6 was not running very well. Pretty interesting neighbourhood (even Dubya mighta thought so), with Curry In A Hurry right around the corner and the one time I was sitting in my office and saw a burning matttress thrown out of a window at some welfare hotel the next block over. I could see the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings from my window - nice view, for the most part. At the time I was working there, Howard Stern's agent was in the same building. Rode up in the elevator one time with him - a REALLY tall guy who seemed really snobbish, so I just ignored him. Figured that probably pissed him off. There's a little park a block away kitty corner to the southwest of the building where I used to go and be amazed how quiet it was being a city block in size. The traffic is only slightly noticable there. I forget the name of the park.

I think my friend must've died in 82 or 83. His former companion was still alive last I heard. Who could figure it out? Sort of like elm trees that survived Dutch Elm disease. Something to be studied intently to understand why, or to just say, "Hmm. Interesting" and then ignore - depending on your perspective (like Dubya). Do you really think Dubya says "interesting?" No, that's probably too big a word for him. He'd probably really say, "Hmmm."
