The Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation has acquired the former Claybank
Brick Plant, an early 20th century face and fire brick manufacturing
complex situated on the northern Great Plains of North America. This
site is in the process of being restored and interpreted as an
industrial heritage site. As such, it will recognize the importance of
brick manufacturing to the development of the world's construction
industry over the centuries.

The Claybank Brick Plant has been designated as a National Historic Site
by the Government of Canada, and is now being proposed for designation
as a World Heritage Site.

As part of the nomination process, the Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation
needs to compare the Claybank Brick Plant with other existing brick
plants (operational or closed) throughout the world. Specifically, we
need to determine:

1. What other brick plants exist?

2. Where are these plants located?

3. Are the brick plants still operational?

4. What dates were these brick plants established?

5. If not operational, when did they close?

6. What historic buildings or structures remain at these sites?

7. Have the brick plants been significantly modified?

8. How much original machinery exists at these brick plants?

9. Do any substantial archival records exist for these brick plants?

10. Are present-day and historic photos of the brick plants available?

DEADLINE: The deadline for finishing our report is very soon - May
9,2003 - which leaves very little time to obtain this information. Your
response to any or all of the above questions would be greatly
appreciated. If we are successful in making this initial phase of the
nomination process, a more detailed report will be required of us at a
later date.

Please send your response to the any contacts listed below. Scanned
photos would be welcome.
