1.  Cornhuskers.  And I tell you, by the time of the kickoff at 11:30 AM,
downtown was as empty as a scene in "On the Beach".

2.   My philanthropic aunt Mary gave a theater complex to UofN, her semi-alma
mater (actually graduated from Vassar, which is hopping mad that she has done
nothing like the same for them).  Had the ribbon cutting on Friday night, Bob
Kerrey (New School University head, form sen/gov) was there, other
luminaries, UofN is a big deal in Neb, possibly only deal.   We watched Jules et Jim -
head of film program  (former hippie who wears western shirts and string ties)
said he was sure my aunt told him it was one of her favorites but, after the
showing and just as we were going in to the reception (full of freeloaders - my
aunt didn't even get one of those cool desserts) said to me, sotto voce,
"I've always thought that was an awful film."  It is just possible that, at age
92.5, she may have forgotten.

Building is mild brick with wavy roof, kind of Frank Gehry/airport style,
with a touch of Architectonica.   300 feet from PJ's Sheldon Gallery.    Word on
the street is that the interior organization is good, but the outside
expression is "muddy".   (In retrospect, building should have been shaped like
gigantic popcorn popper, but that is perhaps a little advanced.   However,
architecture in Lincoln is 500% better than architecture in Manhattan - except, of
course, for that exquisite repair on the NY Athletic Club Ralph did.

Flew out of Lincoln today, saw a miraculous sight at 8000 feet over the River
Platte - a loose metallic birthday balloon.
