In 1996 I was working on a parapet on a building directly across from Paul
Rudolph's A&S building at Yale. It was about quitting time, and I watched a
guy, as in slow motion, step back off the side of a swingstage that had no
side gate, or bar. He flipped and landed on his front side, dead. It was
never in the papers, and I have never heard anyone speak of it. I looked at
my buddy, who was looking stunned, at the body, and asked "Did what I think,
really happen?" We just stared.

...swing stage accident where the guy fell 47 floors and lived. Someone is
not talking.
Christopher
My guess would be that the one who isn't talking is the survivor, and I
don't imagine that anybody other than he knows exactly what happened.
Whether he isn't talking because he can't (physically or emotionally), or
doesn't want to because he and his brother screwed up, or because his lawyer
told him to clam up and hold out for the big bucks, or something else, God
knows. It does seem odd that the City and/or the State haven't said shit
about their investigations, given that there are people on window washing
rigs (and swingstages) every day. As far as I know, the window washing rig
mechanics I see regularly don't know what happened, either. They hadn't
heard anything last time I asked, but I'll ask them tomorrow.
