Even my best source for naming architectural "parts" and parts of columns
does not name this. But, it has good pictures and names of lots of things.
I'm refering to the Illustrated Glossary of Architectural and Decorative
Terms at the back of Henry Hope Reed's "The New York Public Library",
Norton, 1986.

Subject: [newsletters] [BP] Fluted columns
Hey'all
My son is writing a paper on Brunelleschi (Renaissance architect) and wants
to know what the little outward bump is called within the valley of the
flute at the lower portion of some fluted columns. I know it adds proportion
and rustication, but can anyone tell me what these things are called?
Thanks,
Eric Hammarberg
