 The original portion of the building was built in 1947, the only other
place in Houston I have only seen lead covered conductors is in man holes
down town, with the old 208 volt distribution system. I may take this back
to the university for a decision on the final method to be used.

  Conduit rust and split the wall? I was going to say "C'mon, this is
Houston--they'll tear it down and build it new before that ever happens" but
then I remembered it was on a university campus and might be an old building
with some historical or sentimental value (read "alumni" and "fund raising")
so maybe it will be around long enough for the conduit to rust.

    I'm afraid that if you don't cut the conduit beyond the line of the
wall, it will continue to serve as a conduit (for water) into the wall and
room, and that the portions of conduit that are left inside the wall will
continue to rust, which will crack the concrete (and rust rebar in the wall,
too), and it will all have to be redone.
