Re polishing glass: a couple of years ago we installed a 4x8 pane that had a
pass-thru circular cut-out.  It got scratched somehow during installation,
and rather than replace it, we polished it out with tin oxide, water, a
power-buffer, about 3 hours and a bit of a mess.
