They fixed the 911 issue long ago. Actually, fixing the electricity issue is 
easy too, get a small UPS and just put the router and vonage adapter on it. 
A small UPS will run just those 2 things for long enough that if you're with 
out power longer than that you shouldn't stay there anyway.
