need to be an official BARD user to use the ap.

It can be pretty restrictive with the iPhone because I'll bet the player
authorization will be based on the phone's EIME number.  That will likely
mean you need to re-authorize your replacement phone when you upgrade.  That
is not an official position, but just a speculative guess.  But, I'd be
willing to bet that it isn't going to be open where you could just download
the app from the iTunes store and use it.  I'm sure it will be more tied
down than that to protect publishers.
