Very interesting, Steve, especially since I tend to use the PTT button on my
Heil Gold Line mic for normal everyday operation, except when contesting.

Tom,
The PTT button on my gold line mic failed after a few years. Started acting
goofy, then quit. I've long since done away with the switch and use 2 foot
switches (feet switches?) and a hand switch under the edge of the desk all
wired in parallel.

Stick with the foot switch for a while, and if the problem continues, the
answer is somewhere else, but I had a bad experience with the switch on
the gold line, and that's as good a possibility as any.
