The VS-3 is the voice chip for the TS-2000, the DRU3A just records what you
want if you want to contest or something. I have it, but it's not a big
deal.
A new one will have the latest firmware but I don't think there have been
all that many changes anyway. The last few updates I saw were pretty
pointless for the US version.
You'd be very happy with the TS-2000, I've had mine almost a year now and
it's a real good radio. It's my primary radio in case you were wondering
with all the radios I mention having here, the TS-2000 is the one I use
about 85% of the time, with the IC-706 coming out for PS events and vacation
and the TS-830 a lot of weekends. I haven't used the TS-570 since I got the
TS-2000. I really like the TS-2000, as does everyone I know who has one, and
that's a lot of them.
