I heard that it is possible to set up your own link so you can transmit to
distant repeaters from an HT using a base station at home. Is there any
accessible radio that has this function? This way, I can still have the
power of a base station type radio without having to be tethered to one
location. If such a thing does exist, is it legal to use on 2-meters, as
some how the radio would need to ID itself now and then as I monitor through
the HT, as it's technically functioning as a small personal repeater of
sorts. I never encountered anything about cross-linking when I took my test,
back then I never knew of anyone doing it, must be something new in the last
few years.
