On installing, Win98/NT will write&read a lot of small files... add
Smartdrive to autoexec.bat &| config.sys and the speed will soar.

You may also run from DOS command line if HIMEM is loaded :
smartdrv <size, in k> <drive>
like smartdrv 4096 +c +d

+ allows write-caching, useful and faster
