About a year ago, when I first subscribed to a list for a diet very
similar to Paleo, I naively posted a very similar question to yours,
except it was regarding *my* religion's requirement to eat an
itty-bitty smidgen of bread on sabbaths/holidays...
...A somewhat similar imbroglio ensued when the very first reply was
"Do you really think that GOD would expect you to jeopardize your
health for the sake of keeping the laws?" Well, that wasn't what I
was asking, at least not on the list! What I *was* asking was: how
far could I push the envelope with the grain-free diet? Pushing the
religious envelope was a separate question which I was concurrently
asking my spiritual advisor. I was looking for the common ground
where the two disciplines intersected.
To me, it seemed that my religious orthodoxy was being called into
question by those who (perhaps unwittingly) had no problem being
equally, if not more, orthodox about the grain-free diet. It was
actually kind of funny, in retrospect.
The whole thing wasn't quelled until one wise participant wrote:
"Deanna asked for our opinion and experiences of eating a morsel of
Bread while adhering to (the diet). Not about our opinions of her
chosen spiritual path..."
So, I guess all I want to say is that these things are the nature of
the beast, and one can try to find the humor in them and not take them
too seriously.
