As a dimunitive person who hangs out around bridges and other undeveloped
parts of town beating the bushes with a stick and continually glancing at
the sky, I can relate to trolls!

Hominids have been found in a wider geographic range than any other
Primate for several million years.  Modern Man is a vestage of the
pleistocene mega-fauna that flourished during the waxing and waning of
the ice sheets during this era.  To survive the long winters, grass
eaters on the temperate savannahs would have to have large fat stores
comparable to artic mammals or domestic cattle in which this trait has
been selectivly bred for.  The much larger mega-fauna would have required
relativly greater fat stores than the smaller game found today.  As man
himself would have required more fat to survive the long vegatable-less
winter (Inuit eat at least 70% fat), he would have sought the animals
with the most fat.  The extinction patterns of the megafauna that began
with man's domestication of the dog allowing more efficent hunting seem
to follow the path of selective hunting for fat content.  As to the N6/N3
fat ratios of these extinct animals, I won't hazard a guess but any
shortfall may be corrected with fatty fish or other sources.

Eating a largly vegetarian diet is very difficult to do year-round even
for most arboreal primates.  Even in the rainforest, humans must hunt to
survive.  Here in Texas you wouldn't last long.  In dry years the nut
trees don't produce much and the squirrels get most of them.  In wet
years the nuts just rot!

BTW, several hundred trolls will be joining me in Vernal, Utah over
Thanksgiving week for the annual North American Falconers Association
Field Meet!!!
