Hi, Linda. To set PL:

1. Make sure the radio's PL is turned on. If you keep pressing the
PL key (third button in from the left), you'll hear a series of
beeps. The lowerst of the beeps means that PL is off.

2. When you hear the lowest tone beep, press the PL button one more
time, and you'll hear a higher tone.

3. Make sure you're in VFO mode.

4. find the freq you want and make sure you have the proper offsets.

5. Press the Function button, followed by the PL key. (The Function
button is the second button in from the left).

6. Turn/click the far left outside knob to the right or left. As
you do this, the radio will announce the PL tone on each click.

7. Once you get the PL you want, press the PL key again.

8. Press Function, select the memory channel you want, then press MR.

Hope this helps. That's what I do from scratch.--Matt, N1IBB.
