Do you do any programming in C as in gcc or C++ or perl?

I was able to program mine somewhat using a C program I
wrote in GCC but I am not happy with it. I think I can do better
in perl.

The BCD996 uses CSV or comma-separated-variable lists in
which every field in the line of text you send to the scanner as
well as most of what you get back is in the form of CSV lines
that can get very long.

I would love to say that I've got it down and you can
have a copy but I'm not there yet.

It was not long ago that I learned that CTCSS and DCS PL
tones are stored in most radios by an index number which is
proprietary for each scanner model. Any decent scanner control
program will make you enter the correct designation for the PL
tone or DCS code and then convert it to what that scanner uses
to store and index it.

Our local PD, for instance, uses 173.8 as the PL tone.
That tone has an index number of 28 on a Uniden bc780 XLT and
something like 89 or something on the BCD996. DCS codes are the
same way. They are all there, but use index numbers that are
totally different from the actual code numbers.

When I actually get something good written, it will have
to silently use a lookup table to make it all come out right.

The display does show the correct DCS or CTCSS value.
