I purchased the house I am living in here in Bowling Green Kentucky back in
1985. The house was actually built in 1924. When we purchased it, we
completely remodeled it, including the plumbing and wiring. It had the old
"tube and knob" wiring with only 30 amp service. We completely re-wired the
entire house, putting in 200 amp service, and later, when I bought my Alpha
amplifier, I added 220 volt service to my ham shack/home office. So, the
older houses, at least in this area of the country, were built with very
light electrical service. Of course, back in the 1920's 30 amp service was
probably considered high power! <lol> Sort of like my first PC had a 40 meg
hard drive, and everyone thought I was nuts for wasting my money on such a
massive hard drive! <lol>
