Scott,

I guess it's for the same reason that guys used to cruise their 
neighborhoods in cars with 400 horsepower engines and glass pack mufflers. 
With that much power, you're pretty much assured of blasting through a 
pileup even if you annoy everyone else on the band.  Kind of like hunting 
quail with an elephant gun; it gets the job done, but it's not very 
sporting.  Of course, we won't even mention the fact that running 6KW is far 
beyond the legal limit here in the U.S.
