SWR effects the receive as well as the transmit so yeah, an external tuner 
will change the receive as you tune it as well as the transmit SWR, if you 
set the internal tuner to work on receive as well, you'll also notice after 
it tunes the receive will be up a bit. I have my TS-2000 set that way for 
that reason, if the receive is noticeably down from usual, I know to double 
check the tuning.
