well the gap antennas are said to have the most radiation efficiency due to
their design...so even off band, they'll probably still radiate better then
a trapped antenna or multi-band dipole.
40 bucks is a good deal...ifyou can find a friend i'd take it. The ground
mount kits aren't terribly expensive from gap.
