I don't know how you can find this out, although manufacturer specs may tell
you.  I have heard from several places that USB-to-serial adapters with a
chipset made by FDDI work the best.  I don't know whether my adapter uses
this chipset, but I use a Belkin adapter to talk to the FT950 with Ham Radio
Deluxe and with N1MM Logger.
