It's quite normal and harmless.

Like us, as it gets older, your computer will get slower. Possibly the 
shutdown message has always been there, but as your computer ages and slows 
down, you now get time to partly see the message. It's just XP doing its 
normal shutdown procedure, no need to worry unless things slow down too 
much. It will then be time for regular cleanup and restoration maintenance.

If you haven't reformatted the hard drive in 4 years, you're doing well if 
it's still performing reasonably.
