Another solution may be to run setup with the switches to tell it create a
new registry and *.ini files. First, run a through scandisk on the drive to
make sure there are no bad clusters, then boot from a floppy loading the
CD-ROM drivers and nothing else. Switch to the win95 CD and type in:

setup/c/d /p f

This string tells the system to not load smartdrive and not to use the old
config files. If the installation asks you to keep any files on the system
- DON'T. Overwriting them will cause you to have to reinstall some
software, but dll version conflicts can cause problems. I have found this
to be a viable alternative to reformating the drive before. Especially for
those of us that never backup files!

I have also seen a bad cpu give these types of errors before.
