Manuela,

I have never participated in any organized sports, but I have been
doing water aerobics since I was 16 (now 34). I also have done some
yoga in the past, but don't have much time for it right now. I have
done PT over the years when I get tendonitis in my hips, but know the
"routine" so well that I really don't need formal visits anymore. I
did go two years ago for a few visits while I was pregnant to do some
gait training since I had to get used to walking with my growing
belly. Mostly, now I just stretch and do some exercises at home and
go to the pool for water aerobics when I can. I'm not doing near
enough right now and am loosing flexibility and strength, but with a
16 month old, going to grad. school full time and helping my husband
with accounting for his business, I have little free time.

As a kid, I always liked when adaptive PE allowed me to do as much
the same as the "regular" kids, but also loved getting to lift
weights and do stretching in jr/sr. high in place of regular gym.
That benefitted me alot and got me into an exercise routine that I
can maintain throughout my life.

The PE teacher at the school where I taught is just phenomenal with
ALL kids. She gets the less athletic, overweight kids to feel as
good about PE as the athletic ones and she has done some good stuff
with the few disabled kids we've had too. If I had had her as my gym
teacher I may have actually learned how to play all the organized
sports!
