Thanks all for your responses to the tube thing. Yes, they appear to be
direct replacements. I haven't had anyone look at them, but i bought them
off ebay as 6L6. I think I knew they were metal but bought 'em anyway. I
guesss they'll probably work.

It's an Ampeg amp that I have asked about before. It was doing strange
noises and I assumed it was the preamp doing it. It turned out to be the
output tubes. I pulled out one of the 6L6's and the noise almost went away.
So now I have some extra 6SL7's and 6L6's.

Thanks again.

Subject: Tube Question

: Anybody remember those glass things that used to glow and got so hot in
the
: radios and stuff. Maybe someone has a thought or maybe even some facts:
:
: I have an old Ampeg musical instrument amp that used a pair of 6L6's for
: output. They're getting real noisy and I suspect short out sometimes. I
: bought some replacements but they are metal. Can I put them in there
: without any other changes?
:
: YAY for TUBES!
