Anybody remember those glass things that used to glow and got so hot in the 
radios and stuff.  Maybe someone has a thought or maybe even some facts:

I have an old Ampeg musical instrument amp that used a pair of 6L6's for 
output.  They're getting real noisy and I suspect short out sometimes.  I 
bought some replacements but they are metal.  Can I put them in there 
without any other changes?
