Thanks to everyone that responded, but Bill Cohane (thanks Bill) was
able to direct me to an Asus beta bios 2403 that actually did the trick.
I updated to that bios version, defaulted all the settings and got the
system to start-up finally. I won't be doing any OCing until the final
release of this bios version. But I'm just glad I was able to get it to
boot up, even at default this processor smokes.

The Asus web site indicates that your processor is supported. They
specifically show this processor model..
Core 2 Extreme QX6800 (2.93GHz,1066FSB,L2:2X4MB,rev.G0,4 cores)
As long as you have BIOS 2205 minimum.
So you could have a defective processor, bad BIOS settings (set defaults
with your old processor installed), a defective motherboard, or the
processor is improperly installed.
