Oh wow! Lelia!
You have a good memory! There was a Sheila Fisher there ! She was the one
who led the singing she was the music specialist. I only remember because
she and I have the same name. I think people tended to confuse us sometimes.
Thank you so much for your kind words! Yes, I sure do remember the big bowls
of peanuts and raisins that got passed around at campfire!I think the real
snow they had for Christmas in July, (probably a snow making machine) they
brought in to camp for all of us was absolutely incredible! I remember when
us counselors and other staff were up at the campfire area getting things
ready for all the kids, we were all absolutely astounded that they had
actually done that! We didn't have anything nearly so elaborate when I was
going to camp as a kid myself. I can say that planning and making sutch a
delightful surprise possible and truly believable for all of the kids was
easily one of the best gifts I have ever received! Nothing gives me greater
joy and pleasure than giving to another!
I am very happy to hear that you were able to move on from the School for
the deaf and blind to regular public school! When we are fortunate enough to
have older kids and adults who are blind serve as role models and mentors I
think then, we are blessed indeed! It is essential for us to know that we
can learn to do all those every day things like cooking, going to the store,
and just getting around independently!
For the time being, I am in California.
I am currently applying to vending locations within the Business Enterprises
Program. I am really praying that I find work soon! I will be sending in my
application and resumay this week for a snack bar in Sacramento, where I
have been training and volunteering at this summer. I hope and pray I can
get it! It would be a really excellent opportunity for me if I do!

Hugs and many blessings!
Sheila and Vinnie

: Again I say oh wow, this is truly awesome!!!!
:
: Yes, I too will never forget Christmas in July!!! and I will never ever
: forget I had a blind counselor in camp. Honestly, and I could be wrong
: but if my memory is right you and my first grade teacher are the or
: rather were the only blind leaders if you will that I ever saw. So
: seeing you helped a little ten-year-old brat!!! grin know that blind
: people really could do things. I lived a life where if I hadn't got
: out of the school for the deaf and blind here I would have never known
: how to be independent. It was when I went to regular public school
: that I saw other blind people cooking and cleaning and I wanted that
: too. I remember you were the most cool person, gentle but firm when
: you needed to be. Did you continue being a counselor after that?
:
: I have many memories of camp Bloomfield but the ones that stick out in
: my mind are the bowls of peanuts and raisins that always got passed and
: the Christmases in July complete with Santa and snow and I believe
: elves too grin and you too are a huge part of those memories.
:
: Yes, all and all my life is going well, no, I don't have a dog, never
: got one always used a cane grin. My husband is also totally blind and
: uses a cane. Are you still in California? I for some reason thought
: your last name was Fisher. grin
:
: Anyway, oh freedombox I've had it for about almost two months now and
: love it. I am still learning it grin
:
: Well, I've babbled enough again welcome and hugs
