Tried that, and disconnected the keyboard, and reconnected after XP 
rebooted. XP made no announcement of "new hardware detected"; the 
keyboard(s) just reappeared in Device Manager. Then tried updating 
drivers, with the WinXP CD in the CD drive.  Windows couldn't find a 
better driver.

Problem persists.  I'm going to try blasting the keys with a can of 
air, in case it's caused by debris under the keys.
