There are a few instructions on ICanWorkThisThing.com.  You change bands by
pressing function [F] followed by Reverse.  There's a way to use the rig as
a cross-band repeater and a memory chip to make it work as a simplex
repeater.  I found the manual in a zipped file with a jpg for each page.  I
tried running the jpg's through ocr, but the images must not be very good as
the text is only maybe 60% readable.  There also a memory option to add
another 200 or so memories.

Ok, to answer my question.  Menu a is accessed by pressing function for more

than 1 second and then hitting vfo.

Menu b: is accessed by shutting the rig off and then pressing and holding 
the reverse button or third across the bottom front from right to left and 
turning the rig on.  The vfo key takes you down through the menu items and 
the memory button takes you up through the menu items.

Why is this important you ask?  If you want to direct enter a frequency you 
need menu 50 to be on in menu b.  Once done this radio becomes like the 
earlier tm-231a, tm-241a and so on as far as ease of use.  The secondary 
receiver set up is something else I haven't tackled yet.

Just a fyi post for those that are curious.
