  The kind of two-note siren sound that North Americans hear ambulances and
police cars make on British TV shows(*) and movies is different from most
North American sirens, which rise and fall gradually in pitch.

(*) A PBS series called "Mystery!" often features British police dramas such
as Inspector Morse, Linley, Dalgleish, etc.
