Apparently you have the S.M.A.R.T. monitoring on your computer. The message
indicates that a potential serious failure MAY occur. There is no way of
knowing how soon, if ever, the failure will happen. However, since you have
been warned of a serious situation, and your data appears to be valuable to
you, it would be prudent to immediately make plans to replace the drive.
Repairing a drive these days is usually not cost effective, unless the drive
is still under warranty. In any case, you will need to copy the information
to another drive first.

Many drive manufacturers now include software to do exactly what you desire.
That is, copy the entire contents of the old disk to your new one. After
doing so, you may then proceed to get the old drive replaced or repaired
under warranty, or keep is for a backup of the old information. Don't write
any new information to the old drive.

If no copy software is provided with your new drive, then you can use a
product such as Norton Ghost to make an exact image of the drive contents.

this.
