Well, a router really is so you can connect many computers, well, 2 or more
to 1 internet connection, mainly broadband connections, Cable, DSL and the
like. The advantage to that is, they offer firewall protection, but that
doesn't really protect you against viruses as much as from hackers, they
work great against hackers. Best way to keep viruses away is get a good
program like Norton and keep it up to date. Best to let it keep looking for
updates and double check once or twice a week. You really don't need a
router in the network unless you have more then 1 computer, if it's firewall
support you want there are plenty of software ones out there though the
hardware ones in routers are as good at most things and better at others,
mine can protect against viruses too but I have that shut off in favor of
Norton.
