Hey Everybody,
Since the list seems rather quiet right now, I thought that I’d just try
to dash off a quick note to let you know how we are doing with Chris. You
all are such wonderful prayer warriors on our behalf and I [m so glad
that you are there.
Life with Chris has been kind of like a roller coaster this fall with
lots of ups and downs and twists and turns. I think that we are at a
level point right now, but I’m always braced for the next surprise. In
school, Chris is failing almost all of his classes due to lack of
motivation on his part. The psychologist that we have been seeing is
convinced that Chris has A.D.H.D., which he says is more of a
motivational problem than an attention problem so we are now working on
getting in to see a psychiatrist to try chris on one month of medication
to see if that helps. The interesting thing is that this is completely
the opposit of what the neuropsychologist said. We’ve been able to talk
to the psychiatrist some and explain that we are being given mixed
information on what chris’s real problems are so he has suggested acting
as a consultant for us first. We’ll just have to see. We are concerned at
times that the psychologist is siding too strongly with Chris and not
remaining objective so we are understandably cautious. The little girl
that I babysit used to see this psychiatrist for her medication and her
grandmother has assured me that this particular psychiatrist is very
conservative in his treatment. I hope so. I don’t feel like borrowing
trouble if I don’t have too. Of course, Greg and I both know that Chris’s
main problem is spiritual, but until he is ready to deal with that, we at
least have to address the physical.
If I could use one word to describe Chris right now, it would be drifter.
He just flits from thing to thing with little interest or motivation to
achieve or succeed. Right now he is trying to be a vegetarian. Let’s see
his intense exercise program lasted about two weeks. His football career
lasted five days. Well, we’ll see about this one too.
He has been pretty helpful around the house throughout Christmas vacation
though. I should give credit where credit is due. He practically put up
and took down the Christmas tree all by himself. Caleb and I helped, but
everyone else was either too busy with other stuff or couldn’t work on
Chris’s time schedule. I know that this bothered him a lot because the
family is growing up and out and he can’t hold on to the way things were
when he was younger. He’s feeling that loss pretty keenly.
I did make Chris a batch of gingerbread dough and he made a complete
gingerbread community this year, complete with a car and a special smily
face for Caleb. I thought that we were going to get gingerbread aliens
this year, but I guess that he was feeling more traditional.
Anyway, thanks for praying everybody. It is helping all of us cope.
God bless,
Kathy
