Intel has an "Optimized Install" page posted for every one of it's
individual chipsets. They are all pretty much identical, but you would want
to make sure that your chipset doesn't have some anomalies
For example, here is the page for the 865

When doing a new install, with a Intel Chipset, probably also true for
other chipsets,
1) Install OS
2) if installing Windows 2000 install Service Pack 4
3) Install the latest chipset Drivers
4) Install the latest version of Direct X
5) Install the video drivers
6) Install other drivers starting with application accelerator if there is
one provided
