After my positive Iga test for celiac my doctor sent me to a GI
specialist.
Of course the first thing he said was I needed a biopsy. I declined at
this time
because I have been on a gluten free diet for 1 ½ - 2 months by the time
I could
get in to see him and didn’t want to do the gluten challenge. I still
may at
some point. He said as my charts stated I have been diagnosed with IBS
he could only treat me for that. Since I have constipation, he put me on
a
new medication for that called Zelnorm. It is suppose to stimulate the
peristaltic reflex and intestinal secretion ( move your bowels). I
decided to try
it as being constipated is really a drag and changing my diet hasn’t
corrected that
as of yet. The first week on the meds seemed OK, but by the second week
I had all
kinds of undesirable side effects (intestinal churning, bloating,
crampy, bad gas)
very uncomfortable. I called doctor; he said stay on for another week
and call him.
Two days later I had , had enough. I was on 6mg/twice daily. Has anyone
tried this?
medication or know anything about taking it when you have celiac
disease, because I
sure did not have a positive experience. Back to the psyllium and herbs.
I just want
to add that I am very careful about my diet as it took me my whole life
(44yrs) to get
the test for celiac or gluten intolerance, so I am very much a label
reader and only
shop at health food stores and eat very little process food. Thanks for
any knowledgeable
response. Trisha
