I just got out of the hospital for an apparent small heart attack. When all
the stress tests, echo cardiograms, blood tests, and a "strange" EKG, were
completed they decided that I had not had a heart attack and they did not
know where the irregular heart beats came from. These irregular heart beats
have plagued me for 30 years and have been labeled benign. When I spoke to
the cardiologist, I mentioned that I often have to burp after a string of
these events and I wanted to know if the stomach or intestines could play a
role in irregular heartbeats. The doctor told me that the gastrointestinal
system was closely linked to the heart and yes it could be a cause. Last
night I had extreme irregularity and my heart seemed to miss every 4 to eight
beats, which is distressing. This went on for about 3 hours when I finally
decided to take some baking soda. Within ten minutes the irregular heart
beat stopped and did not come back. Has anyone else found they have
unexplained irregular heart beats?
