Help with the power pins on pc!

Dear PcBuild,
This is my first computer I build and I need help.  I put everything to gather and the pc did not come on.  After messing with it, it came on but the power on/off switch and the reset switch did not work.  Is their a certain way to hook the case cables to the motherboard?  Are the letters on the pins facing inward or outward?
