<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Hello again, I had included a post script to my emergency kit posting last week about how to cook brown rice without making a mess. I am overwhelmed with the number of responses that I have received. Thanks to all who responded. The general consensus seems to be to get a rice steamer. Black & Decker seemed to be the popular choice. Sunbeam was also mentioned. I will probably do this eventually but I have a small kitchen with 3 feet of counter space and a problem with electricity if I have more than two appliances in operation at one time. My priorities seem to be to find a working outlet for the coffee maker so as to not interrupt its brewing cycle and then head to the basement to deal with the kicked breaker! Other suggestions: Bake it the oven for an hour. Simmer, not boil, on stovetop Soak overnight and then simmer 35-45 minutes. Soaking also starts the sprouting process, which helps nutritional and enzyme value. Use a heat diffuser Spray a little oil in the bottom of the pot Microwave on medium 30 seconds then cover and microwave on low 40 minutes. Microwave but spray oil in dish first. Thanks again, Jeanean Davis Edison NJ, USA
