<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Hi ladies--I survived my gluten-free, alcohol-free, latex-free emergency appendectomy, but have one complication (besides the embarrassment of sending this post to 2000+ strangers)--a vaginal yeast infection from hell. Monistat 1 is ineffective. HMO unwilling to provide (expensive) oral nystatin powder. Diflucon (sp?) not an option. Nothing in archives in past year. My theory (HMO doctor doesn't disagree) is that my entire intestinal tract is overrun with fungus as a result of all the antibiotics I was given (appendix nearly burst and may have been "leaking"). I'm doing GF yogurt and GF acidolphilus powder plus a GF powder that contains glutamine. Any and all suggestions about what worked for you (herbs, medicines, foods, alternative approaches, etc. as well as where you got gluten-free versions of each) would be appreciated. Also, has anyone has successfully gotten an HMO to provide medications outside of its formulary products? Should I demand a written prescription for nystatin and have it filled elsewhere at my own cost? I will summarize responses once I can sit down comfortably. TIA, Diane in CA
