<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> I entirely agree with Abigail who wrote an email on celiac and related disorders. I dont understand why doctors keep prescribing antacids instead of finding out the cause. Of course, I also believe it is a patients responsibility to insist on finding the cause. Medicine appears to be big business these days. For instance the way they are pushing hormones on every woman over 50, is it necessarily good for all women? Are we part of an experiment? This was my experience yesterday. I called this doc for an appt. whom I had heard was very good. I always ask if she has any patients with celiac or is knowledgeable of the disease. The nurse told me one of the secretaries there has it and that celiac is really not uncommon, she said they see quite a bit of it. I was very pleased to hear that, that made my day. Usually they say they dont know what it is or may have heard of it. This is a medical center at a local osteopathic university. I believe Maine is one of the few if not only where we train osteopathic doctors. They are just like md's, they can prescribe drugs but lean more towards natural cures such as diet etc. So take heart everyone, there is still hope as long as some doctors are that aware.
