<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> My son is 23.5 months old and is diagnosed failure to thrive. He hasn't gained weight since he was 14 months old.He eats a high calorie, high fat diet,I guess malabsorption is the word. He's been tested for lactose intolerance-neg,cystic fibrosis-neg,thyroid-neg,lead-neg,metabolic disorders-neg but with a "generalized heavy pattern of amino acid urea"-further blood tests revealed nothing. He has also been tested for genetic diseases like williams syndrome, fragile x and a few others because he isn't talking yet and had some motor delay. After all that history here's my quandry-Last week he had endoscopy and they discovered reflux, and non specific inflammation of the stomach and the duodenum.I was sure we'd see celiac from the biopsy but she says it's all non-allergic causes.I forgot to mention that he keeps a rash on and behind his knees that is blistery and itchy.Ped says eczema, but I wonder about dermatitis herpetiformis.Hubby's family has history of food allergy-mom=wheat.He's on meds for the inflammation and reflux(zantac, propulsid, pentaza)for 4 weeks and then we see gidoc again.Could celiac cause this (or dh) symtomology without "allergy" showing in biopsy?I figured that celiac was causing malabsorption and leaky gut and peptides leaking out were acting like neurotransmitters and blocking language acquisition, causing hyperactivity and interfereing with motor skills(he's caught up now, was late to walk, had some weakness). He has protuding abdomen, wasted buttocks and several things mentioned above.Any ideas?I'm frantic about only treating symptoms though I understand the need to protect his system while we look.Could it just heal and go away? Thanks in advance for reading my ramblings, hope someone can make sense of this- Carolyn Hunnicutt [log in to unmask]
