There are a few folks who can't tolerate salt, but for most, salt water stimulates dieresis if the proportions are correct. Veterinarians recommend sprinkling salt on cat's food to stimulate drinking & dieresis when the cats have a urinary tract infection. You may want to try a mild salt solution with 1/4 teaspoon salt to one quart of water. Two quarts a day should help. (If you have cardiac problems or kidney failure, consult a physician before trying salted water.) High doses of vitamin C are also very diuretic. I've read that it's safe up to 8000 milligrams a day unless it causes diarrhea, then cut back. An obese friend of mine had so much fluid retention that she had pitting edema on her ankles. The ankle enema went away in ONE week after taking extra vitamin C every day. (I don't know how much she took.) So maybe salt water & vitamin C would do it for you if you don't have a serious problem such as heart failure or such. Potassium and magnesium are also diuretics. <<< ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Turns out my problem was a severe allergic reaction to antibiotic - which sent me to the urgent care clinic - which prompted blood tests - which found that I was diabetic!
