<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> I have had many responses telling me that infants and children who are diagnosed with Celiac often go into a (typical) period of remission during adolesence. However, the damage continues and symptoms often reappear in later life. Years ago, it was a common assumption about Celiac, that these children had "outgrown" their disease. Others warned about the possible health hazards of Celiac-diagnosed adults not following the diet. It seems that some people choose to ignore their illness and reintroduce gluten, once they are feeling better and the villi have healed, (one or two years after starting diet?) Some list members suggested a mis-diagnosis in the first place. Janice.
