Keith > Arthur Jones was the inventor and marketer of "Nautilus" equipment and an early advocate of what people now know as High Intensity Training (HIT). Is it these things aspects of the Jones "philiosophy" that appeal to you, Jim? Or is it something else?

It's the high intensity aspect of Jones' philosophy. I've said on the paleofood list that my twice a week routine -- combined of course with a fairly strict paleo diet -- has given me a very high level of fitness. One thing that Jones said that has continued to confuse me is that endurance is directly proportional to the *size* of a muscle. How could this be? Why don't we see heavily muscled marathoners? The answer has to do with both that long distance running isn't a whole body exercise, they're primarily using the lower body obviously, and that marathoners overtrain for the event. I'm starting to come around to this idea, having run 9 miles lately relatively effortlessly. Given the right weight program and some genetics, I can see how a non-runner might do very well in the marathon.
