Thanks to all who replied to my question about eye problems. I received over
50 posts. Most of those were from members suffering from a variety of eye
ailments, several mentioning a problem with focusing or depth perception.
While no one can make a direct link to celiac disease(and I checked with Dr.
Fasano, also), it seems to me that there must me some correlation. I also
received a wonderful note from Ron Hoggan who made the connection not
necessarily with celiac, but with the fact that she's having seizures.
For those of you curious as to whether or not she's seen an opthamologist, she
has. Doc can't find any obvious reason for the problems my niece is
experiencing. She had surgery to correct a "crossed" eye, but the problems
have persisted.
My conclusion is that basically celiac disease can affect most any part of the
body, be it because of malabsorption or the autoimmune thing. It may be
important for us to let our eye docs know we have this. The more
documentation, the better the possibility of finding answers. Again, thanks
to everyone for the input.
