The American Diabetes Association approved 3 low calorie sweeteners, one
of which is in the "Sugar Alcohol" category ( brand names; Sorbitol,
Mannitol, Xylitol, Dulcitol).

My diabetes ed. binder states that these are "derived from sugar, but
have not been found to influence blood glucoses. It also says eating too
much of these can cause diarrhea, gas & bloating. The level at which
this may happen varies with each person."

My family surprised me with a box of sugar free chocolates for Easter
(newly diagnosed diabetic w/Celiac Sprue)-- that have this sugar alcohol
sweetener as one of the ingredients........

has anyone else tried or had experience with this category of sweetener?

Also, I see nutrasweet can't be used for baking- but the brand name
"Sweet One" (category Acesulfame potassium; Acesulfame K or Ace K) can
be used in baking & cooking. Approved in Europe in 1983, received FDA
approval in 1987 for use in table top sweeteners, gum, geletins, pudding
& candies.
Any GF bakers experimented with this concoction?

Still happy that they thought of me & tried finding something for me &
blazing that new trail my life has taken.....

Happy Spring Listmates!
